RECREATATION "Ardmore - The Sunny Side of the Arbuckles"

Arbuckle Mountains are one of the oldest mountain ranges in the U.S., extending over 300 square miles. They, together with the adjoining Ardmore Basin, constitute one of the most remarkable geologic exhibits in the country. Due to an ancient uplift and millions of years of erosion, there are exposed in this district stratified rocks aggregating over 30,000 feet in thickness. Starting at Ardmore and driving north into the mountains, one sees outcroppings at the surface, one after another, the same rocks that he would see if he could go straight down into the earth from five to seven miles within the city. Located in the Arbuckle Mountains on the beautiful lake of the Arbuckles, Goddard Youth Camp is located in the rugged hill country of south central Oklahoma. Among the beauty spots to explore and enjoy in this ancient mountain range are Turner Falls Park, with its lovely cavern and spring fed Blue Hole for swimming; Cedarvale Park, on Honey Creek; Price's Falls, four miles east over the Seven Sister Trail.

Lake Murray State Park - comprising 20,000 acres, was created by an act of the Legislature in 1933. Nature provided an ideal setting for the park among timbered, rolling hills. It is centered with a crystal-clear, 6,000-acre lake, which is heavily stocked with fish. Boathouses, scenic roads, cabins for public use, organized youth camps, picnic grounds and camp sites have been erected on the property. Lake Murray Lodge is one of the most fabulous tourist attractions in the southwest. It has 54 rooms and 80 villas, a ballroom, dining rooms, recreational rooms and an Olympic type swimming pool. Nearby one can find an 18-hole golf course, Tucker Tower Museum, a non-denominational Chapel (the only one in the State), and an airstrip with a 2,500 foot paved runway located between Lake Murray Golf Course and the Lodge.
